Moglyph FX

Well known by C4D users, Mograph still remains one of the most powerful and robust procedural cloning and animation module.
AfterEffects users can taste a little bit of its power for free, thanks to the "Fracture" and 2 "Effectors" (Plain and Random) that come with the Cinema 4D Lite version, packed with every AfterEffects CC version. But it is definitely limited and frustrating, since the most interesting tool is still missing : the CLONER !

How many times a motion designer has to duplicate and animate sequentially a bunch, sometimes dozen, of similar graphic shapes in their projects ?

Of course you can animate your designs with keyframes, then duplicate them, sort them with a time offset... but it is time consuming and what if you are asked to change the whole animation later ? Well, you'll have to redo the entire process, again and again, until your client is really satisfied !

Some existing tools aim at making this process way more efficient and less tedious, but you'll still end up with a lot of duplicated layers in your timeline, and, who wouldn't prefer to keep a well organized timeline, just like in Cinema4D, where you can just deploy or close objects hierarchies to keep things tidy up.

Introducing... Moglyph FX, a Mograph like toolset that allows you to clone predefined glyph shapes and animate them proceduraly, within one single text layer !

{{video type="youtube" video_id="y8n2eS0mk94"}}

Moglyph FX comes with a neat UI panel divided in 2 tabs, that let's you concentrate on how you'll generate and manage your glyph clones first, then on how you'll want to animate them thanks to the 6 different effectors available.

Here are the two tabs and their tools shown side by side :

The Generate tab

Moglyph FX - UI Generate Tab

Follow the steps in this exact order :

    1. Choose a Moglyph font (or a custom one)
This dropdown list contains all the thematic Moglyph fonts available (with 100 glyph shapes in each), and the option to use a custom font (works like Cinema4D's MoText tool in this case). More glyph fonts will come in the future, you'll find them here after a correct installation of the assets.
    2. Choose how the glyph cloners should be populated
Choose one of the 2 modes available : Procedural (by default), allows you to automatically generate a specific amount of glyph clones and arrange them by iteration or randomly if your have created more than 1 glyph shape ; Manual is less common, but it can be useful if you want to create manually your own "sentence" of glyphs, one by one, by picking them in the Glyph panel.
    3. Create a Cloner setup
Click on one of the 5 different Cloner setup buttons. From left to right :
Spline Cloner (arranges clones along a path), Linear Cloner (clones are arranged inline), Radial Cloner (clones are duplicated in a circular shape), Grid Cloner (clones in grid array) and Honeycomb Cloner (similar to the grid but with alternated odd and even amounts of clones in the rows).
    4. Add new glyph shapes to your cloner
By clicking this button while a cloner layer is selected, you'll open up a "Glyph panel", just like in Illustrator, that allows you to replace the default glyph shape (if you choose only one glyph), or to create iterations or random arrangements with multiple shapes.
Once you have finished your selection, just close the window (you'll be able to add more glyph later, at any moment, by re-clicking on the Add New Glyph button).

The Animate tab

Moglyph FX - UI Animate Tab

From top to bottom and left to right :

    1. Plain effector
      Applies values uniformly, as defined in the Parameters effect's group, to all the clones or just a portion of them if you play with its Falloff ;
    2. Delay effector
Animates the clones sequentially from their initial state (you can invert its keyframes to reverse the animation) to some specified parameters, with a nice elastic secondary motion.
    3. Formula effector
Applies parameters values based on 1 of the 3 different formulas available : Wave (sin), N selection (mod) or Random direction (just set the Rotation Z to 360° and play with the N slider to set the number of orientations).
    4. Random effector
Animates your clones randomly, in an organic way, based on the parameters you specify. You are not bound to have some animation : just set the Animation speed if you want a still design.
    5. Step effector
Play with the Curve's keyframes to reshape your clones, from the first to the last, directly in the AfterEffects "Graph editor", just as you would do in Cinema4D's "Spline graph" !
    6. Time effector
Creates a perpetual motion onto your clones, based on the values specified in Parameters. No keyframes are needed !
    7. Effector options
The Randomize Falloff order gives a more chaotic Falloff (randomly chooses the next clone to animate while animating the completion slider) ; the Rows based (not glyphs) option is only useful for the Grid and the Honeycomb cloners (animates line by line instead of character by character).

Moglyph FX allows you to use all the 5 Cloner setups from Cinema4D (drag your mouse over for animation)

Moglyph FX comes with 6 C4D Mograph like effectors :

Moglyph FX - PLAIN Effector Moglyph FX - DELAY Effector Moglyph FX - FORMULA Effector

Moglyph FX - RANDOM Effector Moglyph FX - STEP Effector Moglyph FX - TIME Effector

The MoglyphFX cloner's properties, generated glyph shapes and effectors are all handled by a single text layer, which allows you to  :

  • Keep your After Effects timeline light and clean (and you can add as many cloner setups as you want in a same comp)
  • Extrude the generated glyph shapes within Element 3D (just choose your Moglyph Cloner layer as a custom Text & Mask layer in E3D)
  • Use "3D per character" to animate the glyph clones in 3D (you can customize it and add any animator or property like any text layer)
  • Use 3rd party text scripts and presets on top of the cloners (animate clones with cool tools like Animation composer or Text Evo)
  • Save your setups as reusable presets (drag and drop all the Cloner's text groups, mask and effects in the preset library to re-use them later)
  • Use the thematic Moglyph fonts in Illustrator’s glyph panel (perfect for the design and storyboarding process)

Important Disclaimer :

Some of you may have noticed that another tool, called Cloners+Effectors available here on aescripts.com, aims at animating clones in same Cloners setups procedurally, like Mograph as well. It is true, and this tool is really cool and efficient for this purpose, so... What are the differences between both products ?

In order to help you make your choice, here are a few arguments and comparisons :

  • Moglyph FX relies entirely on Afters Effects Text layers, which means that you will always be bound to use the one-color symbols, called "glyphs", provided in the different thematic Moglyph Fonts. This is the main limitation of Moglyph FX and where it really differs from its contender Cloner+Effectors, since this one lets you use any layer (that can be precomposed with animated graphics in it) as clones. And this is mainly why, Moglyph FX costs almost half the price of Cloners+Effectors.
I will do my best to provide as many useful and nice glyph shapes as I can, in a continuously growing font library, but this is definitely something to keep in mind while purchase one of these products.
  • Another major difference between both products is how the "Falloff" options for the Effectors affect the clones. In Cloners+Effectors, you'll find the 2 most used Falloff shapes that Cinema4D (and other procedural modules like Mash for Maya) offers : "Linear" and "Radial", which allows you to animate your clones just by dragging the Effectors accross them, just like in Cinema4D. Moglyph FX is an entirely different beast while dealing with Effectors falloff ; since the effectors are in fact some complex "text animators", you'll never be able to separate their position from the cloner and, then, to animate your clones in this way. Moglyph FX Effectors' falloff rather consists of a bunch of "completion" sliders (with a "Start", a "End", an "Offset"...) than will help you animate your clones one by one, depending of their index order, from the first to the last by default, or row by row if you check the corresponding option in the "Animate" tab. Note that you can randomize these clones indexes with another cool Effector's option from this tab, if you do not want to animate clones in a sequential way.
  • Moglyph FX offers ALL the 5 Cloner types that Cinema 4D has, including the really awesome "Spline cloner" (which I use a lot in real productions) and the "Honeycomb" that appeared for the first time in Cinema 4D R18 versions, while Cloners+Effectors has only the Linear, Radial and Grid types. Note that Cloners+Effectors offers another great feature that mimics the "Fracture" object from C4D (called "Cluster"), that MoglyphFX will never be able to reproduce due to After Effects Text layers limitations.
  • Since Moglyph FX is based on presets with all the proerties linked to some effects, it is faster (almost in realtime, just by playing with "Count" slider) to generate a large amount of clones in your comp, while Cloners+Effectors is a bit slower on this point because of the way the script duplicates each layer. But keep in mind that both products, whichever it is, will become to slow down your composition's preview and render, as soon as you try to animate a large amount of clones with the help of effectors. This is totally normal, and this is mainly due to After Effects own limitations. If you feel that you have reached the limits and it slows you down in your workflow, just consider learning and buying a real 3D software like Cinema4D (but even there, large amounts of clones can become very slow !).
  • Moglyph FX is based on Text layers, so you'll benefit from all the arguments already written above
So, as you can see, there isn't really a better product than the other : it is just a matter of preferences and needs. Both products have their own strength, are great, crafted with passion, but they also have their limits. So the choice is really up to you !

Installation

  • First install all the Moglyph fonts (like you would install install any other font on you OS) contained in the folder called FontsMoGlyph-StarterPack
  • Allow Scripts To Write Files and Access Network by turning on the corresponding option in your AE Preferences > General tab.
  • Either use the aescripts + aeplugins manager app (easiest) or manually copy both the "MoglyphFX.jsxbin" file and the whole "MoglyphAssets" folder, then paste them at the same level inside your Application > After Effects' current version > Scripts > ScriptUI Panels folder.
  • Restart After Effects
  • Launch the toolset called "MoglyphFX.jsxbin" from the Window menu, then enter your license code.
  • Depending of your OS and permissions, a few more steps may be needed ; just follow the instructions that appear on the screen and restart AfterEffects again when the message asks you to do it.
  • Once AfterEffects has re-opened, dock the panel wherever you want in your AE's layout and you are ready to go !

Sometimes animations must feel professional but go rather unnoticed. Lower thirds or explainers with a more serious style don't need a firework of effects. This bundle contains in/out behaviors moves and transitions for Squash & Stretch Pro that support you in these kinds of projects. Subtle, elegant, serious.

130 behaviors & 208 sound effects

{{video type="youtube" video_id="BawxYwXHyXc"}}

Can the sound effects be used with other applications?

When applying a behavior to a layer, Squash & Stretch can add sound effects automatically that are tailored for this animation. But you can also access the sound effects as normal wav files (as described in this tutorial) such that you can use them with any other application.

Compatibility

Like all extra bundles, this bundle requires Squash & Stretch Pro and does not work with Squash and Stretch Free.

LayerGenerators

{{video type="youtube" video_id="FOCbTaxNukE"}}

LayerGenerators is a collection of 3 tools for After Effects to automate the creation of layers.

These tools are particularly useful when a large number of layers is required, and when these layers cannot be obtained by just duplicating an existing layer.

They have been designed during the development of our plug-in Pastiche, when we realized that it would be great to have a tool to quickly generate a bunch of elements to start playing. They can be used to create text layers, solids (possibly with masks and effects) and vector shapes.

AlphabetFromText

This tool generates ASCII alphabet with the font style of the selected text layer. Each character is placed on individual layer. It also provides options to generate digits and punctuation marks, to center anchor point in layer content, and to use shape layers instead of text.

Solidity

This tool allows you to easily create a large number of colored solids, or to colorize existing layers (solid, text, or shape layers).
The generated solids can possibly inherit properties from an initial solid (e.g., masks or effects).
The Colorize option allows you to color the created solids or existing layers. You can select one the 60 color presets, or create your own palette.
For text and shape layers, you can choose to affect the Fill color, the Stroke color, or both.

VectorIcons

This tool generates icons as shape layers. You can choose among 3000 vector icons from 6 popular icon sets. Icons can be either created by group (for instance "all brand icons"), or individually.

Since icons are created with shape layer, they can be resized without loosing quality. However, for convenience you can specify the initial icon size. All icons are filled in white.

MAIN FEATURES:

Intuitive and easy to use: click and go! Avoid tedious and repetitive work

Fast and robust: create hundreds of layers in a matter of seconds

Each tool does one thing, but it does it right

Perfect companion for tools like PASTICHE and NEWTON2

Search and Edit Bundle

Use pt_TextEdit to search for and edit text layers in your AE project. You can create your own text style presets and apply them to multiple layers at the click of a button.

Demo

Upgrade notice: If you purchased v1 after Feb 16, 2013 the upgrade is FREE, otherwise the upgrade is $15. Make sure you login (or create a new account) with the same email address that was used for the original purchase. Please contact support if you have any questions.

HOW TO USE:

SEARCH: Click Search to show all text layers, or use the options to find specific layers. For example, search for layers containing Bold in the font name. Or put tags in the layer comments and search for them.

TEXT STYLE SETTINGS: The panel on the left contains the preset options and a list of text properties that can be edited. Check the properties you want to change, or click the box beside the Preset pulldown to toggle between the checked settings.

TEXT LIST: The text list at the bottom shows any text layers found in the search, along with their text property values. Select the layer or layers that you want to edit.

FETCH: When the box to the left of the Fetch button is checked, selecting a layer from the list will automatically copy its values into the checked settings in the top panel. When the checkbox is off, use the Fetch button to copy the values from the selection. Select a text layer in your comp instead of the list to fetch values directly from that layer.

APPLY: When the box to the left of the Apply button is checked, any change you make is applied instantly to the selected text layers. Alternatively, use the Apply button to apply all checked text settings to all selected layers on one go.

ADD TO TIMELINE: This is like the Apply button except it applies the currently checked settings to any text layers selected in the active composition. If no text layers are selected it adds a new text layer to the active comp instead.

PRESETS: You can save your text styles as presets to be reused later. Click the Save button and choose a name for the preset to add it to the Action/Preset pulldown. Select a preset and click the Delete button to remove that preset.

ACTIONS: The Action/Preset pulldown contains a few other options. Choose "Refresh List" to update the values in the text list after doing an undo or manually editing the text layers. You can also choose to turn on or off any layers selected in the list.

Vesterbro Animated Typeface

Vesterbro

Named after the city district located where the old Western Gate of Copenhagen used to be, Vesterbro is an attractive serif face from Black[Foundry]. It is the brainchild of Jérémie Hornus, who developed the type family in collaboration with Alisa Nowak and Ilya Naumoff. Jeroen Krielaars animated two of the twelve weights.

The core design of the Vesterbro family is the Poster weight. The imaginative high-contrast typeface combines characteristics from Scottish and Garalde models. Vesterbro Poster is warmer than most Didot-inspired display faces. It has friendly, organic shapes, with a generous x-height and short serifs. Its tilted axis and supple curves lend Vesterbro Poster an inviting, jovial personality; just look at that radiant smile on the lowercase ‘e,’ or how the ampersand licks the next word.

Pleasantly readable in text sizes and attention-grabbing when used big, Vesterbro is a versatile type family for global communication that can be applied to any design project, from editorial design and graphic identities to advertising, branding and packaging.

Templater Rig

Templater Rig gives you the tools to prepare an After Effects project file for dynamic content. Map data to your composition layers and preview how those layers change as information from the data source is processed. You are currently viewing the Templater Rig catalog page.

Templater Pro

Templater Pro extends Templater Rig by offering desktop automation, allowing you to render or replicate batches of versioned compositions using data from your data source.

Templater Bot

Templater Bot is an enterprise solution for custom video on demand. It works as an automated system. Use it to periodically check for incoming data, pull new data in, and render video as a background process. Or use the command line interface to push data in to create new renders. Once your AE project is prepared, use Bot to customize and render it without operating the After Effects user interface. Developers can create front end applications, such as web or mobile apps, that feed data into Templater's data source, offering a collaborative, custom video content creation solution.

Reasons to use Templater Rig

  • You find that swapping content in your project files takes too much time.
  • You want to prepare an AE project file to render with a different studio machine running Templater Pro or Templater Bot
  • You want to create an AE project compatible with Templater Pro to sell or distribute it as a template.

Reasons to use Templater Pro

  • Your clients have a database of customer information, and they require a quick turnaround for many unique videos based on that data.
  • Your studio has multiple artists who need to work concurrently on different variations of a master composition.
  • You have purchased a Templater-compatible AE template and want to create many unique versions of it quickly based on data from a data source.

Reasons to use Templater Bot

  • You need an efficient way to create anywhere from 15 to 15,000+ unique videos based on a data source.
  • You want to automatically create a video based on web form input and run a script to upload it to a server.
  • You want to integrate Templater into an existing automated production pipeline.
  • You need to automatically run a script after every render job or after all render jobs are complete.

A single license of any Templater edition allows you to install and / or activate that edition on a single machine for one user. Before purchasing, you should verify that Templater will help your workflow by using it in trial mode. The trial lets you explore Templater Rig, Templater Pro and Templater Bot features with a watermark. After 30 days, all functions cease to work without a purchased license. For an additional fee, a floating license version is also available which works in conjunction with a Linux based license server. To inquire about a floating license version and server please open a support ticket.

Feature Descriptions

Versatile

Map your spreadsheet or JSON data directly into AE composition layers. Use Google Sheets in the cloud or tabbed-separated-value files exported from Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, or Google Sheets. You can also use a plain text file containing a JSON object array exported from your own app.

Intelligent

When updating an AE composition with your data, Templater intelligently adjusts dynamic layers relative to their containing composition and other sibling layers. No need to futz with aligning, scaling, or positioning dynamic layers—let Templater craft your composition according to your layout rules.

Timely

Use time-based rules to crop, trim, shift, and stretch layers using Templater's patent-pending Time Sculpting feature. There's no need to worry about integrating footage sources of varying duration into a video template. Now Templater can maintain the design integrity of your video while processing footage of different lengths.

Global

Insert characters from any language into your spreadsheet and see them appear in your text layers. Of course, installed fonts should have the glyphs you require. Templater reads your text as it appears in your spreadsheet, so commas, quotes, apostrophes, and new lines are accepted. Right-to-left scripts are also supported.

Iterative

With a click of a button, preview how your data-driven compositions will look prior to rendering or replicating. Iterate through previews of your render jobs to see how Templater treats different text, footage, and colors. Resolve problematic data quickly and effectively.

Efficient

Pro & Bot Only — Templater churns out many unique renders very efficiently. Choose to render all the rows in your spreadsheet or just a range. You can apply AE output modules and render settings templates to batch jobs and customize output names.

Industrious

Pro & Bot Only — Templater can quickly re-version a master composition with your data and replicate it so you can work your mograph magic on it before rendering. Replicated comps are kept tidy and organized within a clean folder structure. You also have the option to send replicated comps to AE's render queue or the Adobe Media Encoder.

Automatic

Bot Only — The Bot for Templater operates After Effects for you. When The Bot finds new data, it triggers Templater's customization and rendering process. Developers can create web or mobile apps that feed data into Templater's data source, offering a collaborative, custom video content creation solution. In addition, you can use shell scripts to automatically handle post-rendering tasks.

Powerful

Bot Only — Engage with Templater processes through shell commands. With the command line interface (CLI), developers have unparalleled flexibility for integrating video versioning within their existing pipelines or systems. Most controls found in the Templater Panel are configurable via a command line options file.

Transparent

Want to know what Templater is doing at any given time? Inspect its log files for full transparency. Troubleshooting Templater has never been easier.

Upgrading

Upgrading from 2.5 to 2.6

Templater switched to a new licensing system starting with version 2.6. This means you will need a new license code to use it. Please refer to this FAQ for assistance.

Create an Animated Word Cloud!

Word Clouds are graphical representations of Word frequency that give greater prominence to Words that appear more frequently in a Source Text. The larger the Word in the visual the more common the Word was in the document.

The Algorithm creates a State by filling the Shape with Words without overlapping using Weight of Words, Font and Color Theme. By adding a State to the Text layer, you can create an Animation between the States using a Marker with a State number.

Known Issues

  • Fonts List includes all installed fonts that are correctly displayed by the HTML engine.
  • The Font Name in the Font List and in the After Effect can be different, so sometimes you need to manually change the Font of the Text Layer to correctly display the Word Cloud.
  • In CC2014 it is additionally important to manually set the Text Layer Leading to 0.

About Monkey Scripts:

The Monkey Scripts are designed with both the novice and professional in mind. They can save hours, or even days of work by helping to automate the creation of motion graphics. In a world of shrinking budgets and tight deadlines, Monkey Scripts are an indispensable part of any designers toolkit.

Whats the difference between the Monkeys?

TypeMonkey specializes in animated type. It has a unique algorithm that simulates a classic "kinetic typography" design that is popular in a wide variety of projects, from lyric videos to corporate presentations. Our first and most popular primate.

LayerMonkey uses the same layout algorithm as TypeMonkey, but it works with any type of layer - video, pre-comps, graphics, whatever. However, it won't generate text like CircusMonkey or TypeMonkey. Text has to be prepared manually in Illustrator, Photoshop.

MotionMonkey is a whole other animal. It has a much more complex and versatile animation system then the others using the layout from the original imported artwork. It's ideal for layered artwork that you want to quickly animate in complex ways.

ShapeMonkey is a procedural shape layer animator.  Designed for easy experimentation and quick iterations.

CircusMonkey creates and animates type. It specializes in 3D text layouts using 7 different algorithms that can be adjusted via effects controls after the build.

MonkeyCam Pro Is a more powerful version of the camera thats included in most of the others Monkeys. Its a standalone product but can also be used in conjuntion with any of the other monkeys.

MonkeyBars specializes in creating text box animations, the kind used in viral videos, info graphics, lower third supers, and subtitles. Great if you do high volume work.

  • Compatible with motion blur
  • Compatible with inbuilt text animation tools
  • Compatible with paragraph text & vertical text
  • Apply it directly to the text layer, so no need for parenting, mattes or expressions

TextBorder is currently compatible with CS6 to CC2018. Note that the 2018 version has better rotation mechanics, so it's recommended to use this version.

Limitations: TextBorder is compatible with 3D text layers but does not take into account 3D transformations. Rest assured it does take into account 2D (X&Y) transforms.

TextBox is TextBorder's spirit-plugin that also draws a fill for text layers. If you find TextBorder useful then you'll likely love TextBox!

We've added some new features to TextBorder such as gradient fill, dashes, individual expansion, general performance increases and more which will soon be making an appearance in TextBox.

Welcome to the Circus!

CircusMonkey is a follow up to the original TypeMonkey, our first kinetic type generator. While both generate kinetic typography, they go about it differently and the results are completely unique.

CircusMonkey's Text Rigs are at the core of a system that allows you to create a series of basic 3D shapes with your text. It has multiple animation options, an automatically generated camera that moves from one word to the next and marker-based timing controls that make adjustments a breeze.

An additional set of live, effects-based controls allows you adjust the layout, animation, camera angle and visibility of the kinetic rig after the initial build.

As with all our Monkey scripts, it's designed for a wide range of users, from beginners to experts.
